Summit Ski Area, established in 1927, is the second oldest continuous operating ski area in the United States, and the first ski area established on Mt. Hood. Since 1927, Summit has continued to provide a safe, family oriented area that is easy to get to and, best of all, extremely affordable. The base elevation of Summit is located at 4,000 feet and has 306 feet of vertical lift for skiing. The Winter Sports Facility, as it was referred to many years ago, was developed in Government Camp as a result of a massive search and rescue effort for lost skiers during a storm during New Year’s week in 1926.
Summit Ski Area also operates the Snow Bunny snow play / tubing area which is 2 miles East of Summit Ski Area.
Summit Ski Area prides itself on focusing on the safety of the skiers and tubers. As a matter of fact, Summit was one of the first ski areas on Mt. Hood to recommend helmets for the tubing customers.
